In covering the March 24, 1999 tenth anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, television programs showed Valdez oil still on Alaska's beaches today. Exxon says the beaches are now clean and safe. But through television, you could see with your own eyes whether Exxon is telling the truth. Below are three pictures from one of the programs.

Government scientists have described the remaining oil, like that below, as "land mines that will cause chronic harm to successive generations" of wildlife -- and as 100 times more toxic than previously thought.
