2. Before the oil spill, Cordova was one of the top ten seaports in the nation based on the value of seafood harvested. By 1993, Cordova had fallen to a low of 51st place with loss of hundreds of millions of dollars from spill-induced market and fisheries collapses. Well over half of the residents were involved in the fishing industry. Here, small, swift gillnetters fish the Copper River Delta and Sound.
